A 45-year-old man from Ramoya village in Ndhiwa constituency was arrested for allegedly failing to take his sick wife and son to hospital.
Andrew Anyona was arrested in a joint operation between police and residents of the village. Anyona allegedly locked up his ailing family members in their house for prayers and refused to take them to hospital. Kajwang’ sub location assistant chief Enos Nyawade said the man’s wife and 15 year old son had been ill for two weeks.
Nyawade said some neighbours pleaded with the man to take the two family members to hospital but he refused and opted for prayers. “The two sick persons had been overwhelmed by the time residents stormed the home and took the two to a hospital,” Nyawade said. The administrator said residents reported the matter to him before he called the police to arrest him. He said the man was arrested because he severally rejected and turn wild against those who asked him to seek medication in hospital.
Anyona is a member of Legion Maria church in Kobodo trading center. The church is said to have been praying for its believers when they fall sick and does not easily allow them to attend hospitals.
On Tuesday, Nyawade said residents could not allow the man to continue making the sick persons get weaker.
“He was arrested and taken to Ndhiwa police station. He’s being interrogated before arraigned in court,” he added. Police took the sick mother and son to Ndhiwa Sub county hospital for medication.
“We’re going to establish what they were suffering from since they had grown weak. Medical officers are attending them ,” Nyawade said.
