The Governor of Meru County H.E. Kiraitu Murungi has today officiated over the re-launch of School Feeding and Nutrition Program (Free ECDE Milk Program). Today’s event held at Gitoro Primary School in Meru town also brought together the partners, Meru Dairy Cooperative Union and Tetra Pak Company who made the program a huge success.

The program is also a realization of Governor Kiraitu’s Manifesto Promise to provide free milk for all ECDE children in Meru. This has led to massive increase in ECDE enrollment across the County since its commencement.

“We have so far spent Sh145 million in giving milk to our children through the program and we hope to provide throughout the week, should we get more funds which we are hoping will be achieved through the ongoing BBI process, where we have asked for increased allocation to counties from current 15% to 45%,” said the Governor.

During the function, Tetra Pak Company showcased the newest innovation where they are using the waste from the Terra Pak packets used to package the milk, in recycling and making school desks. They donated several sample desks and waste disposal bins made from the technology to Gitoro Primary School.
