Police in Mumias have canceled two church functions that would be attended by the DP William Ruto tomorrorw Sunday.

The events at Indangalasia Catholic parish in Matungu and St Leo parish at Shianda in Mumias East were cancelled over security concerns and Covid-19 restrictions.

Matungu OCPD said they had inteligence reports that some people had planned to disrupt the event.

“Furthermore, Covid-19 directives are still in force and this contributed to the cancelation of the event,” said Mr Ngungu.

Yesterday, team tangatanga leaders dared the State to cancel today’s planned meeting in Mumias, days after he was forced by the police to abandon an event in Nyamira.

Senators Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Samson Cherargei (Nandi) and MPs Caleb Kositany (Soy), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili) and Hilary Kosgei (Kipkelion West) said they will not allow their right to assemble as well as freedom of association to be trampled upon.

A tentative itinerary indicates that the DP will attend a church service and a fundraiser in Mumias East constituency, where he will be hosted by MP Ben Washiali.

Kositany said the actions targeted at Ruto were a sign that “the deep State was scared of being beaten hands down by the hustler nation.”

In Mumias East, Shianda police post Commanding officer Christopher Wesonga cited similar reasons while denying the steering committee of St Leo Catholic parish permit to hold the fundraiser.
