The somber mood that enveloped the burial of General Ogolla, the Chief of Defence Forces, was palpable as KDF soldiers, known for their bravery and stoicism, could not hold back their emotions as they bid farewell to their fallen comrade. The fallen general was laid to rest at his home in Siaya County, in accordance with his wishes to be buried without a coffin, wrapped in a sheet.
The Last Post, a mournful military musical call played using the bugle or trumpet, was sounded to symbolize the final journey of the general and the end of his duty. This solemn melody served as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by General Ogolla in serving his nation.
The Kenya Defence Forces paid tribute to Ogolla with a 19-gun salute and presented his wife, Aileen Ogolla, with the Kenyan Flag, the KDF service flag, his official sword, and boots. These gestures were a symbol of the commitment to service that Ogolla exemplified throughout his military career.
President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, and Defence CS Aden Duale were among the dignitaries in attendance. President Ruto urged all Kenyans to emulate General Ogolla’s dedication and commitment to serving the nation with excellence and without discrimination.
Defence CS Aden Duale praised General Ogolla’s invaluable contributions to the KDF and called on servicemen and women to embody the values of courage, integrity, and patriotism that Ogolla represented. He expressed confidence that Ogolla’s legacy would endure in the hearts of all Kenyans.
The country will hold a memorial service for General Ogolla and the other officers who perished in the helicopter crash on Friday, April 26, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 10 officers who were on a peace mission in the Rift Valley region.
As the nation mourns the loss of General Ogolla and his comrades, their memory will serve as a perpetual inspiration for all Kenyans to strive for excellence, dedication, and service to the nation. May they rest in peace, knowing that their legacy lives on in the hearts of the people they served.
