Gathoni Wamuchomba, a vocal leader in Kenya, has officially come out and thrown her support behind George Natembeya’s Tawe Movement, aimed at taming political dynasties in the country. Both Wamuchomba and Natembeya share a commitment to uprooting the politics of sycophancy and cronyism that have plagued Kenya for years. This shared goal has brought the two leaders together, as they cheer each other on in their pursuit of alternative leadership and transformational politics.
Wamuchomba commended Natembeya for his bold confrontation of long-standing leaders like Wetang’ula, who have maintained power for decades. Both Wamuchomba and Natembeya believe that a few selfish leaders who consider themselves irreplaceable due to their bloodlines and political connections are holding back the progress of the country.
“Usikufe pekee yako panga kakitu utuambie tuje kukusupport (Don’t die alone; plan for a forum and we wil come to support you). lt’s time for us to take over. We need to do away with normalising the repetition of the same blunders, tolerating selfish politics and bring on board development politics,Hatutaki siasa ya hii boma lazima iwe hapo ndio lazima tuongozwe (we are against politics that dictate specific people from particular families must be in power). We can’t allow leadership that Iimits other leaders from speaking up because their parents or relatives were not politicians” Wamuchomba said.
Natembeya echoed Wamuchomba’s sentiments, stating that Kenya should not be controlled by a privileged few who believe they have a right to power by virtue of their family connections. He emphasized the need for inclusive leadership that allows for diverse voices to be heard and actively contributes to the country’s progress.
“We have to come out of the box and provide fresh style. We don’t want politics of people pressing you down to toe their line even when their ideologies are hurting the people and yielding no fruits for Kenyans,” Natembeya said, reiterating that Kenya was not a club of few people or a private enterprise
They argue that a political system based on dynasties and cronies is detrimental to Kenya’s prosperity and must be dismantled.. Wamuchomba and Natembeya agree that these leaders need to be eliminated in order to pave the way for new, more progressive leadership.
According to political analysts, Wamuchomba has taken a stand against certain government policies that she believes do not serve the best interests of the Kenyan people. For example, she opposed the Finance Bill 2023, which proposed a significant increase in the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on fuel. Despite her party’s position, Wamuchomba stood firm in her opposition, demonstrating her commitment to her principles and the well-being of her constituents. She has also spoken out against the Housing Levy, arguing that it does not align with Kenya’s real priorities and is unconstitutional.
“Wamuchomba’s opposition to the Finance Bill 2023, which proposed a significant increase in Value-Added Tax on fuel, as well as her stance against the Housing Levy, reflects her commitment to prioritizing the real needs of the people over political expediency. She has been willing to go against her party’s position in order to stand up for what she believes is right for the country.” Said David Wafula
Both Wamuchomba and Natembeya are united in their belief that Kenya needs a new style of leadership that prioritizes development and the interests of the people, rather than perpetuating the same old politics of self-interest and exclusion. They are advocates for a more inclusive and progressive political landscape that empowers all Kenyans to participate in shaping the future of their country.
“We need to do away with normalizing the repetition of the same blunders, tolerating selfish politics, and bring on board development politics,” Wamuchomba asserted. Natembeya echoed her sentiments, emphasizing that Kenya should not be controlled by a small group of individuals or families. He stressed the importance of allowing all leaders to have a voice, regardless of their background or familial connections.
“We are against politics that dictate specific people from particular families must be in power,” Natembeya stated. “We can’t allow leadership that limits other leaders from speaking up because their parents or relatives were not politicians.” Both Wamuchomba and Natembeya are determined to break the cycle of dynastic rule and usher in a new era of more inclusive and accountable governance.
As Wamuchomba and Natembeya continue their fight against entrenched interests and outdated political systems, they have pledged to support each other in their endeavors. “Keep fighting from your end; if they attempt to push you, invite us, and we will fiercely defend you,” Wamuchomba assured Natembeya. Their partnership symbolizes a new wave of leadership in Kenya, one that is committed to challenging the status quo and putting the interests of the people first.
