Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced plans for the renovation of Uhuru Park, a national monument in the heart of the city. The county government has allocated Ksh156 million for the construction of a dancing fountain, which will be a major attraction for visitors to the park.
During the official handing over of Uhuru Park on Thursday, April 18, Governor Sakaja revealed that a total of Ksh500 million will be spent on various improvements to the park. In addition to the dancing fountain, the county government plans to open up a tendering process for investors to set up recreational facilities such as a night club and restaurants.

The governor also emphasized the importance of transparency in the tendering process for the new facilities. He assured that all contracts would be awarded in a fair and open manner to ensure that the best businesses are selected to operate in the park.
In addition to the new attractions, Uhuru Park will also be equipped with manual gym equipment for fitness enthusiasts. Two basketball courts will be set up in partnership with other companies, providing opportunities for sports and recreation in the park.
Furthermore, the existing pond in the park will be drained and renovated to have clear water, enhancing the beauty of the park. Governor Sakaja stated that the majority of the renovation work is expected to be completed within the next nine months and will be fully funded by the county government.
To ensure the safety and cleanliness of the park, entry will be free for all visitors, but identity guards will be stationed at the entrances. This measure is intended to enhance security and maintain the park as a clean and welcoming environment for all.
