Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has taken swift action to address roof leakages at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following a directive from Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen. Acting managing director Henry Ogoye has confirmed that repair on Leaking Roofs have already begun to at terminals 1B and 1C of the airport.
The recent heavy rainfall has caused damage to the temporary drainage infrastructure put in place by the contractor, leading to the leakages being experienced at the terminals. Ogoye assured the public that the repair works are underway, and the contractor has been instructed to complete the works on schedule. He also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the leakages and reiterated KAA’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of service.

The leakages have disrupted services at some sections of JKIA, with operations at Terminal 1C, serving several international airlines, coming to a halt. This is not the first time that the airport has faced such issues, as a viral video of a leaking roof at JKIA surfaced last year. Murkomen attributed the problem to poor workmanship by the contractors and engineers who carried out renovations at the airport during the previous government’s tenure.
In response to the recurring leakages, KAA announced plans for a face-lift to begin in the current financial year. The authority acknowledged that JKIA has suffered from inadequate facility and infrastructure upgrades over the past decade, leading to temporary interventions becoming permanent solutions.
It is evident that the infrastructure at JKIA is in need of urgent attention to prevent further disruptions to airport operations. The government’s commitment to decommissioning the affected terminals and constructing new ones is a step in the right direction. It is essential for KAA to prioritize the maintenance and upgrade of airport facilities to ensure the smooth operation of one of the country’s busiest airports.
In conclusion, the efforts by KAA to address the roof leakages at JKIA are commendable, and it is crucial for the authority to continue investing in the maintenance and improvement of airport infrastructure. By upholding the highest standards of service, KAA can ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers using JKIA.
