Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has taken a strong stance against Kenya Kwanza politicians who have been attempting to blackmail Raila Odinga over his criticism of the government. Despite running for the African Union Commission chairmanship with the backing of William Ruto’s government, Raila Odinga has not shied away from speaking out against the ruling party.
In a statement, Wamalwa emphasized that the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance will continue to be the voice of the Kenyan people. He called on Kenya Kwanza politicians to stop using blackmail tactics against Raila Odinga, especially in response to his calls for action on corruption and incompetence within the government. Wamalwa also urged the government to declare the current flood crisis a national disaster.
“Our message to Kenya Kwanza is; stop blackmailing Raila Odinga over the AUC chairmanship for calling you out on corruption and incompetence and declare the current flood crisis a national disaster!
“Azimio will not be gagged and will remain the voice of the voiceless, silent, suffering majority of Kenyans,” Wamalwa said in a statement on X.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has been vocal in his criticism of the government, particularly in relation to issues such as house demolitions in places like Mukuru. He has called on the government to prioritize the well-being of its citizens and to show compassion in their actions.
“Let them (the government) stop demolishing houses in Mukuru. If they try to demolish the houses, call us. If you want to relocate the people build good houses and prioritise these people. Do not demolish houses for the people when they do not have a place to go. Citizens are not animals. Have a human heart,” Raila said.
“If you come by force… we are the force. We shall come together and die with you. Mukuru must stay,” Raila said on May 3.
Despite facing criticism from Kenya Kwanza politicians like Aaron Cheruiyot, Raila Odinga remains steadfast in his commitment to speaking out against injustice and standing up for the rights of the people. His long-time ally, Paul Mwangi, has affirmed that Raila’s bid for the AUC chairperson position is not a matter of life and death for him, and that he will not compromise his principles for the sake of political gain.
Raila Odinga officially announced his candidacy for the AUC chairperson job in February 2024, and his determination to fight for the well-being of the Kenyan people remains unwavering. As the leader of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance, Raila Odinga continues to be a voice for the voiceless and a champion for the rights of all Kenyans.
