Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka made a bold statement on Wednesday, April 24, as he waded into Mt Kenya politics, declaring that he would lead a nationwide protest if Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba faced political persecution. Speaking at Wamuchomba’s Food for Education programme at Ikinu Primary School in Githunguri Constituency, Kalonzo asserted his support for the legislator and warned United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders from Mt Kenya against accusing her of being a rebel.
Recalling a past incident where Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had allegedly sent police officers to chase him out of Kiambu County, Kalonzo emphasized that he would not allow such actions to happen again. Describing himself as the country’s top mobilizer, he stated that even the national government recognized his popularity among the masses.
Kalonzo’s presence in Githunguri was seen as a form of protest in itself, with the former vice president asserting that his support for Wamuchomba made her untouchable within UDA. He advised the MP to remain in the party and lead the opposition internally, thereby preventing any attempts to subject her to disciplinary processes.
The Wiper leader’s warning to Gachagua and UDA leaders was clear – he would not hesitate to lead protests across the country if Wamuchomba faced any form of persecution. Kalonzo expressed confidence in his ability to mobilize the masses and force the current government out of power before the end of their term.
In a direct challenge to Gachagua, Kalonzo questioned the use of police force to disperse peaceful protests, highlighting the burden of high taxation on ordinary citizens and law enforcement officers alike. He asserted his position as the “king of protests” and vowed to use his influence to bring about political change in Kenya.
Looking ahead to the future, Kalonzo expressed optimism about leading the Azimio coalition in forming the next government in 2027. His strong stance in support of Wamuchomba and his willingness to stand up against political persecution demonstrate his commitment to fighting for justice and democracy in the country.
Kalonzo Musyoka’s declaration of support for Wamuchomba and his readiness to lead nationwide protests send a clear message to those in power – the people’s voices will not be silenced, and justice will prevail.
