Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made it clear that he is fully invested in the affairs of Nairobi county and will not sit on the sidelines when it comes to ensuring the capital thrives. During a women’s groups fundraiser hosted by Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor at Nyayo Stadium, the DP emphasized the importance of Nairobi and his commitment to working closely with the county to help restore its glory.
“We have homes and families here. If Nairobi is not thriving we will not be happy. So nobody should question our interest in Nairobi because this is the capital city. We will continue working together with the county,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua dismissed critics who questioned his involvement in Nairobi, stating that as a resident of the city, he has a personal interest in seeing it prosper. He highlighted the significance of Nairobi as the capital city and emphasized that he and President William Ruto have agreed to take a keen interest in its development.
“Nairobi is too important to be ignored, together with President William Ruto we have agreed to take a keen interest in Nairobi abd we will help restore her glory. We are not doing this just because we have voters in the city but we are also stakeholders.”
The DP’s remarks come amidst rumors of a possible split within the ruling UDA party in Nairobi over the leadership of the party. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja refuted claims of a supremacy battle between him and Gachagua, stating that he respects the DP and that he is his senior in both politics and life.
“I respect him, he is older than me, and he is my senior politically and in terms of position. I have never talked ill about anyone, including those who always insult me,” Sakaja said on Inooro TV.
Sakaja, who has declared his interest in becoming the UDA party chairman in Nairobi, emphasized his commitment to leading party members in the county. Despite rumors of MP James Gakuya having the backing of the Deputy President, Sakaja made it clear that he is firmly in the race for the chairmanship position.
The involvement of high-profile leaders such as Gachagua and Sakaja in the affairs of Nairobi county demonstrates the importance of the capital city and the need for strong leadership to ensure its prosperity. As stakeholders in Nairobi, these leaders are committed to working together to address the challenges facing the city and help it thrive.
